Luxury Costa Rica Expedition Private Tour

Local Time

Why You Should Go

Located in Central America, Costa Rica hosts more than 5% of the world’s biodiversity. We recommend this expedition itinerary for active families who love the outdoors. Primarily based in the Arenal Conservation Area, this place is teaming with life within its lush, green rainforests. Containing a great wealth of geologic and biological complexity, Arenal has more than 500,000 acres of rain forest, rivers, lakes, and old volcanic lava fields. Arenal also plays an interesting role in Costa Rica’s power production- Lake Arenal, which rests at the base of the volcano, supplies a high percentage of the country’s hydroelectric energy. This is the place to be if looking to get away from the hustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in nature and outdoor activity.

Best Travel Time: Winter Spring

Hotels

Located in a remote area on the banks of the wild Pacuare River, the 20-villa eco-lux Pacuare Lodge is ideally set for an active family outdoor experience. Pacuare is in the middle of the rainforest on the river with nothing around for miles, literally. Very basic but beautiful with no TV, everything is wood and tile-low lights (almost Amanesque), and not a lot of electricity being used (no hairdryers). Though no a/c the lodge boasts a “cross ventilation” cooling system, due to its riverside location offering cooler evenings. Tours are all done by local guides on property so you get to know the guides. There is also a spectacular 20-meter infinity pool framed by the lush rainforest where guests can cool off and relax. Outstanding full-board meal service offering excellent local fair and fresh seafood. The fruit and vegetables are out of this world! Pacuare also accommodates off menu ordering with basics such as pasta and burgers available for kids. Everyone eats all three meals in the same outdoor dining area so there is a sense of camaraderie which is fun and a very intimate feeling. Pacuare reminds us of a slightly bigger Deplar Farm. Three full days of activities are about all you need if you do an activity in the morning and one in the afternoon. The people could not have been nicer!
