Amangiri, Utah: Our Favorite Remote Adventure Lodge in the American West

It is no secret that our Lynch family tribe has a profound love for the AMAN brand, as described in “Our Passion for AMAN” blog! As of 2009, AMAN has extended their luxurious brand to our very own United States, at Amangiri in Canyon Point, Utah. When first visiting Amangiri back in 2012, little did we know it would become the most sought after destination in the American West. Amangiri is a place like no other, set on the foothills of the southern part of the Escalante National Monument, completely secluded from the outside world(!). It has been described by many as the “best luxury hotel in America”, and we can see why! We love this simplistic property in the heart of Utah’s picturesque desert landscape surrounded by canyon walls, and are truly thankful we have the option to indulge in our AMAN obsession without having to leave the country!

Location

Amangiri is located in Canyon Point, UT, just across the Arizona border. Due to its remote and exclusive surroundings, it can be a little tricky to get to (all part of the fun!). It is accessible a few different ways:

  1. Transfer to Amangiri from Las Vegas International Airport: 4 hours 20 minutes
  2. Transfer to Amangiri from Phoenix International Airport: 4 hours 30 minutes
  3. Private charter flight into Page, AZ and transfer to Amangiri: 27 minutes

Once you have arrived, you’ll feel the intensity of this remarkable property. It is spread over a 600 acre area, made up of three main sites: Amangiri, Camp Sarika, and the Mesa Home, all ranging from high-end suites, to tented pavilions, to a private 4-bedroom house.

Accommodation

Whether you’re staying as a couple or a family, there are plenty of accommodation options to choose from. All 34 rooms and suites have been carefully designed in the signature Aman fashion- simple, minimalist, clean, neat, and peaceful. The architecture is meticulously planned all the way from the location of each room, to each chair, to each doorknob or light fixture – and every piece of furniture has a purpose and a way of bringing Zen to each guest. The property is constructed of whitestone floors, concrete walls, and natural wooden fixtures to amplify your intimate time with the surrounding nature. The rooms all face outward and offer unrestricted views of the nearby canyon walls, and the location is certainly off the beaten path, making this a true stay of “going off the grid”. Some rooms feature their own pool, firepit (very useful in the cold desert evenings!), sky terrace, and courtyard.

AMAN Spa

The AMAN brand has a world-renowned reputation for their wellness services, and there no exception to this at Amamgiri. Spanning over 25,000 sq. ft. of the property, the Amangiri Spa is the optimal spot to truly relax, unwind, and get in touch with the surrounding nature and culture. The extensive services range from massages to beauty treatments to restorative therapies, all inspired by the local Navajo traditions on holistic wellbeing. The Navajo word “Hózhó” is the true inspiration and practice here, meaning to “be in tune with ones self and in harmony with the world”. Other wellness activities offered include a yoga class on top of a rock formation (recommended at sunrise!), grounding rituals, and a relaxing heated pool.

On-Site Activities and Experiences

As reflected in their spa services, Amangiri is clearly tightly bonded to their local community and culture. While visiting this spiritual area, guests have a unique platform to appreciate, understand, and indulge in the Navajo way of life. If interested, you may wish to participate on a Navajo guided tour of the surrounding slot canyons as well as Monument Valley Tribal Park, where you will hear stories from this intriguing tribe with powerful meaning and join in on a ritual dance by the fire. Other activities include guided hiking tours of the intimidating landscape, rock climbing (for those who dare!), and canyoning through the Colorado Plateau. Water-based activities include kayaking, paddle boarding, and/or boating on Lake Powell. If you’re looking for something a bit more laid-back, we love the horseback riding tour offered through the desert for a chance to explore the area and truly take it all in. Other options include UTV tours, e-bike rentals, hot-air balloon experiences, private tours to the nearby National Parks (Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon), and even numerous adventures via private helicopter. No matter your interests or fitness level, there is a truly special experience waiting for you at Amangiri!
