Tanzania & Kenya Luxury Safari

Local Time

Why You Should Go

Though South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Rwanda, and Zambia may be our favorite high-touch safari destinations over the past few years, we certainly cannot overlook the uniqueness of Tanzania’s Ngorongoro and Serengeti wildlife areas. There is no roughing it here as the 5-star Sanctuary Swala Camp, The Manor at Ngorongoro Crater, Singita Sabora Tented Camp, and Singita Faru Faru Lodge all offer a custom luxury experience.  The flagship wildlife feature of Ngorongoro is the Ngorongoro Crater, home to over 250,00 animals, including the “Big 5”. Complimenting Ngorongoro is the iconic Serengeti National Park and the Mara River in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, where, though becoming increasingly less predictable, two million wildebeests usually pass through from mid-June to August.

For our clients passionate about hiking, we may offer a seven-day ascent up Mt. Kilimanjaro via the Machame Route offering the challenge of a lifetime, but much rewarded by a relaxing, luxury safari experience after!

Seven-Day Ascent up Mt. Kilimanjaro

Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro via the Machame Route
As the highest mountain in Africa, with its summit being approximately 16,100 feet from its base and 19,341 feet above sea level, it is no wonder why bucket lists of avid climbers and hikers worldwide feature Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Kilimanjaro can be hiked all year round, however, we feel it is best to climb when there is a lower possibility of precipitation. The dry seasons are from the beginning of December through the beginning of March and from late June through the end of October. These are considered to be the best times to climb in terms of weather. Please note that large animals are rarely seen and are more frequent in the forests and lower parts of the mountain.

Though there are six main trekking paths used to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, we feel the nine-day/eight-night Machame Route, with a seven-day ascent, to be the best option. To read more about this journey and day-by-day itinerary, please read our blog post here.

The eco-friendly, 5-star Sanctuary Swala Camp is by far the highest quality luxury camp in the expansive 1,770-square-mile Tarangire National Park. Each of the 12 open-designed tents includes all the expected luxurious comforts, including private verandas (great for wildlife watching!), indoor/outdoor showers, and individual attendants/butlers. For clients who wish for daily physical activity, each tent also provides small dumbbells and a yoga mat! The raised common areas include a lounge and dining space surrounding a very old baobab tree. We especially like the camp’s infinity pool overlooking the nearby watering hole, frequented by elephants, zebras, and predators during the dry season. One client staying here particularly liked the “sitting safari” at the tent veranda where they saw roaming zebras, elephants, and antelope passing by each morning. An eye-opening altruistic opportunity for our clients would be a visit to the nearby Swala Camp-sponsored primary school and community beekeeping project.

Located approximately one hour from the expansive Ngorongoro Conservation Reserve, the exclusive, 20-cottage Manor at Ngorongoro is enclosed within the lavish 1,500-acre grounds of the Shangri-La Coffee Estate. With several other quality lodges located in the Ngorongoro areas, The Manor is still our favorite in terms of its high-touch service and unique surroundings and facilities. Each two-floor cottage is designed in the old, colonial Dutch-style, easily accommodating a family of four. In addition to the private entrance and adjoining sun terrace, we feel the double log-burning fireplaces to be especially nice, given the cool evenings. Kids should enjoy the playroom with a TV, as well as the jar of homemade cookies delivered to the cottage daily! Other Manor amenities include a spa, snooker room, 24-hour room service, and wonderful meal selections. Laundry service is provided and Wi-Fi is guaranteed in main areas.

We consider the boutique, luxury, nine-tent Singita Sabora Camp to be nothing less than safari heaven. Set on the expansive, open plains of the 350,000-acre Grumeti Preserve, each tented suite is lavishly furnished with distinctive mahogany furniture, Persian Rugs, showers, and air conditioning. Other amenities here include a swimming pool in the main tented lodge, a fine wine cellar, a small spa, and a tiny gym. With Sabora being located near two watering holes, the wildlife in and around Sabora is plentiful. It is amazing to see zebra and wildebeest grazing near and around your tents! In addition to day and night wildlife drives, archery, horseback rides, and guided safari walks (15 years or older) are also offered. Laundry service is provided and Wi-Fi is guaranteed in main areas. We highly recommend the hot air balloon experience. Similar to other notable, 5-star safari camps in Tanzania and Botswana, the dining at Sabora is of the highest quality. Among our most incredible memories of our stay here is hearing the lions roaring outside while we slept! Please note, children must be over 10 years old to stay here. If traveling with children under 10, we recommend Singita Faru Faru Lodge!

Inspired by the marriage of traditional African craft with a Danish simplicity, Singita Faru Faru Lodge has been recently renovated! Upgrades included an expansion of the main living and dining areas an a new enclosed dining and lounge area to cool off. Also of note, is Singita’s signature interactive kitchen and open-concept focused on the views. The lodge’s seven one-bedroom suites, family suite, and two-bedroom suite are positioned and naturally shaped around the waterhole for views of the wildlife from your private deck! Other amenities here include two swimming pools in the main lodge, a spa and fitness center, and a TV in the main lodge. Wi-Fi is available, though spotty, and there is no mobile phone signal in this remote place. Please note, children of all ages are welcome at Faru Faru!
